Lee Hwon and Yeon Woo

Episode 1: Yeon Woo follows after a butterfly and saw that Lee Hwon is climbing up the walls with a bag on his shoulders.

Lee Hwon: You do not look to be a court lady. Why are you in the palace?
Yeon Woo: Why were you climbing the palace wall?
LH: I will ask the questions here. Answer me. You must know that it is a crime to enter the palace without permission.
YW: I am here for my brother. He placed first on the literary exam.
LH: Why should I believe you?
YW: That is your choice. However, I was not taught to ignore thievery. I will go get the guards.
LH: The guards? I am not a thief. I was just looking for the exit. See, my brother placed first on the literary-- I mean, the military exam. I am here for the ceremony-- These are the special gifts my brother received from the king--
YW: Here! There is a thief! Here in Eunwol Building! (LH puts is hand over YW’s mouth and grabs her hand to run away from the guards.)
LH: It is your fault that I am now out of breath.
YW: Why are you talking down to me?
LH: You are younger than me.
YW: How are you so sure? How old are you?
LH: Take away two years from your age.
YW: Then that means you are just eleven--
LH: And you are thirteen. I am older than you by two years. Where are you going?
YW: To get the guards--
LH: I told you, I am here because my brother placed first on the military--
YW: Do you blame others and tell lies every time you speak? My brother's best friend placed first on the military exam. And he has no brother.
LH: Are you sure? He has no brother? Alright. I will tell you everything. What is the point in lying to you? The truth is... I wanted to see my brother.
YW: Still talking about your make-believe brother?
LW: No, I am NOT. My brother...We do not share the same mother, but he always loved me best. He is skilled in both academics and martial arts. But he cannot take the civil service exam. He is more than capable, but he cannot take part in the nation's affairs. He holds our father in high esteem, but he is not loved in return. Many people cherish him. But he must stay in the shadows. And...That is the life he leads. I am to blame. Perhaps he is afraid of our father, but he has not visited me in a long time. So I decided to go to him. Does that explain everything?
YW: Why do you blame yourself?
LH: Pardon?
YW: You were born of the main wife, he of the concubine. Neither of you chose this. Why are you blaming yourself?
LH: Earlier you scolded me for always blaming others.
YW: A virtuous man does not blame the heavens or other men.
LH: You read the Confucian Analects?
YW: The farmer does not blame the land, nor the musician the instrument. The fault lies in the owner, not the object or tool. If your brother is a kind person and loves you dearly as you said...he does not blame you. Therefore, you must not blame yourself or others. Shouldn't the king solve this problem regarding the differences in birth? It crushes the potential of capable men and builds a wall between brothers. Shouldn't it be abolished? There are many laws and customs that I cannot understand. Nobles and slaves are both people. Why must there be divisions? And Father is always telling me that women should not study--
LH: In other words, you think that His Majesty is doing a bad job?
YW: That... is not what I meant.
LH: Seems it is my turn to call the guards.
YW: Please don't do that.
LH: Then what do you suggest I do?
YW: Please forget everything I just said...
LH: So do you believe that I am not a thief?
YW: No.
LH: Why? What is the problem?
YW: Where did you get the items in your bag?
LH: They are all mine. Got it?
YW: They were all rare and expensive items. How could you possibly own all those items?
LH: Here I am trying to be nice, and you cross the line. Who do you think I am? I am this country's--! I am Joseon's--!...eunuch.
